Accounting Information Systems (AIS) is a second year accounting unit which is part of the management accounting major.

An AIS is an accounting system which takes in data about an enterprise and produces information (stuff that's useful). You may have seen these in the form of MYOB, Quicken, or Quickbooks. This unit details what they're used for, how to use them, what their purpose is and how they are designed.

Lecture notes not available online, but are available from the Co-op bookstore.

2005: Multiple small assignments. 2006: Big assignment which to create an AIS in Microsoft Access (which didn't work out too well due to the assignment being too ambitious and Access having internal restrictions).

If you're doing an accounting major, you'll probably find the computer related topics quite hard. If you're doing a computer science / software engineering major, you'll probably find the computer related topics quite easy (especially if you've done Computer Network Security as there's a lot of overlap), but the accounting stuff will be quite hard unless you've taken second year management accounting units.

This is probably one of the most useful units in accounting for non-accounting majors as it integrates a lot of detail from accounting units with practical computer activities, but due to this you'll need to do a lot of work to bring yourself up to speed with other students. Don't take this unit if you want an easy filler for your electives, do take it if you want to learn something and have the time to do a lot of reading.
