Historical
The ComputerClubsCamp2012 needed an internet connection. IPoP (IP over carrier Pigeon) and laser links were discussed, but practicality prevailed and [BOB] organised a couple of 3G dongles.
In brief, put power and ethernet up a 6m pole, connect to a router with USB dongle and plug that in to a 11dB directional Yagi antenna. What could go wrong.
Since 2012, the way we get internet has been largely unchanged, but the way we hold a everything up 6 meters in the air has.
List of people involved in the initial setup in 2012
[BOB] provided the router and 3G USB dongle(s). [DTK] built the enclosure and mast. [MRD], [SLX], [EDO] and [*OX] helped on build night.
What It Is Now
A J-Pole attached to the side of the verandah at the camp grounds Power and ethernet are run up to it and any and all maintenance/sim swaps/realignments can be done by while standing on the roof.
