Some things are git, some are svn and some are rcs.

It's probably a good idea to move to git.

Random people's home directories is the worst.

If you do have to search in someone's home directory, use the {{{find}}} command:

Eg (as root):
{{{
     cd /home/wheel/mattman
     find -name "*membershipform*" -print
}}}

Outputs:
{{{
     ./2012membershipform.pdf
     ./2013membershipform.pdf
}}}
