Digital Communications (DC) is a continuation of the work in CommunicationSystemsELEC3302. Topics include modulation systems (nPSK, nFSK, QAM, etc.), coding (block coding, hamming coding, cyclic coding, etc.), convolutional coding, Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and spread-spectrum. The notes are purchased from the school, and are in typical RobertoTogneri style. This is the harder half of the unit. In 2007 this part of the unit included an assignment (measuring bit error rates for various pass-band modulation schemes using Matlab) and a take-home test.

Lower-layer Functions covers framing, scramblers, etc. In 2007 this part of the unit included a take-home test.

Networking covers things related to networking, mostly the Internet, topics include OSI and TCP/IP protocol stacks, IP addressing, subnetting, the fundamentals of routing protocols, packet scheduling, fair queuing, quality of service, DNS, etc. This part of the unit is significantly easier. Notes for the second two parts of the unit are also available from the school, but relatively expensive ($15 in 2007). In 2007 this part of the unit included an in-class test, two laboratories and the submission of one lab report.
