For the fish species Murasoi, please see this reliable source.
It has IP addresses 126.96.36.199 and 2405:3c00:5200:100::1.
See Network for more information.
Murasoi used to be a 2005 model Sun X4200 server, dual Opteron 252 (single core) running at 1 GHz with 4G ram, 2x73G 2.5" SAS disks (mdadm raid 1). The X4200 has 4 on board gigabit network interfaces. It was our amazing new Routing/Firewall server!
It was donated in 2011, replacing Madako (Madako's original IP was 188.8.131.52).
When the hardware was updated to the x3550 M2, the original Sun disks were simply transferred to the new chassis.
Following a power outage in June 2019, both of the original disks in their RAID1 configuration were found to be failing, causing unprecedented downtime over at least part of a weekend while the filesystems were recovered with various parts restored from backups.
The current hardware is an IBM System x3550 M2 and was manufactured on 2009-05-29. It has two Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5520 @ 2.27GHz 4-core CPUs plus 32GB DDR3-1066 ECC RAM (8x4GB). The system is installed on a RAID1 configuration with two 500GB SATA disks (Seagate ST9500620NS, probably acquired with New-Dead-Maltair).
History Prior to UCC
The original Sun machine was originally purchased in 2005 as a VMware GSX (later VMware Server) host for the Faculty of Arts. Circa 2007 became the Vcenter host for the first Arts ESX cluster. After VMware officially began supporting (and recommending) running Vcenter in the cluster itself it became a secondary ESX host around 2009. Decommissioned late 2010 and donated to UCC at the start of 2011.
The newer IBM x3550 M2 machine wasn't as well documented and arrived in UCC sometime between 2011 and 2018.
