Install and Run
Go to https://www.etlegacy.com/download to download the installer.
- Most likely you want the Win32 installer.
- Open the installer.
When it offers to download assets, omni-bot, geoIP and WolfAdmin, uncheck them all
- You can let it download these, but it will take a long time. It's much quicker to copy the assets into the folder manually.
- When it completes, do not let it launch the game yet.
- Download the assets:
- Copy them to C:\Program Files (x86)\ETLegacy\etmain
- Run etl.exe
- Setup your player name and graphics options.
- All the cool kids have colours in their name. You should too.
- Hit the ~ key to get into the console.
Type in /name "^8UCC^7 your name" then hit enter. As you type in the 8 and the 7, they should disappear and the characters from that point appear in orange or white text respectively. Try out what other colours you can get by using other numbers!
- Join the server by typing in /connect heathred into the console then pressing the enter key.
- You should start connecting to the server and loading the map for the game already in progress.
What Now?
- You should be in the Limbo menu. From here you can choose a side and class.
- Additionally you can pick a spawn location, weapon types, etc.
- To get back to the Limbo menu at any time (for example to change class) press L.
- Once you pick a side and class, you will spawn at the default spawn point with the next wave. You can see the spawn timer counting down on the right hand side of the screen.
- You should join a Fireteam. A Fireteam displays a list of members, their health, class and location across the top of the screen.
- Unfortunately there can only be 7 people in a Fireteam.
- If there is no Fireteam yet then you can create one. The game will probably have asked you to, or press the Enter key on the numpad to bring up a menu where you can.
